Strange Smoke Under my Skin
Strange Smoke Over My Skin is a multimedia performance that explores the dynamics of power and the silence of bodies in sociopolitical spaces. Body, light and sound sculpt a multi-sensory space, establishing a dense and immersive atmosphere, where bodies emancipate themselves between the real and the virtual. Based on social and musical representations, the conductor is portrayed as a figure of power, whose authority is recognized and commonly accepted. However, the conductor is the only player on stage who has the freedom to translate the music through embodied movement and is also the only element whose movement does not have any immediate sound representation. In this performance, it is intended to deconstruct these power dynamics, exposing the performers to different means to translate the different artistic expressions into sound and image.
Born in Poland and educated in Porto, Jan Wierzba is known as one of the most versatile musicians of his generation as a pianist, cultural programmer and orchestra director, ranging in repertoire from baroque music to contemporary creation. He has performed in opera, musical theater, pedagogical projects, choral and symphonic context. He is an enthusiast of multidisciplinary projects, looking for the intersection of various forms of artistic creation.
