TRADITIO

Where I was born, there’s an annual festival in which I dress up in my grandmother’s Lavadeira dress to parade in the procession. The streets are painted with colored salt during the early hours of the morning and improvised desgarradas are sung to the sound of concertinas, and there are also these big puppets called Gigantones that enliven the city. On those days, the bagpipes and drums are my wake-up call. But these are some of my traditions. I want to discover others and make them mine. And after tonight, make them yours, too.

Sara Inês Gigante. She graduated at ACE (Teatro do Bolhão) in Porto, and got her degree at ESTC, in Lisbon. In 2017/2018, she did an acting internship at TNDMII. She worked with Jorge Silva Melo, Alex Cassal, Bruno Bravo, Pedro Frias, Pedro Gil, among others. In 2019, she was assistant director of Tiago Guedes, in the show A Matança Ritual de Gorge Mastromas, by Dennis Kelly, at TNDMII. In 2021, she premiered her first production, YOLO, included in the Festival Temps d’Image program, in Lisbon.
