A show is about to start on a small stage placed on the stage itself. The few spectators facing the small stage are waiting. After some time, an announcement is heard:

“THE SHOW IS BEING CANCELLED DUE TO LOW ATTENDANCE. PLEASE LEAVE THE THEATRE.”Silence and emptiness being perceived as condensed space will become a fertile ground for creative relationships. Their growing dissatisfaction will lead to a desire for disobedience and a refusal to leave the theatre.

Triggered by their own expectations, the spectator-performers will innocently start, from a guessing game, to conjecture fantasies about what the cancelled play would be like and will reinvent the space, transforming its topography.

From a waiting room, the space will be transformed into a room of action; a transitory space, unexpected and full of twists and turns, where the dramaturgy will be woven on the possibilities.

About Mafalda Miranda Jacinto and Anthi Kougia

MAFALDA MIRANDA JACINTO (Lisboa, 1989) is a performance maker and visual artist.
As a creator oriented towards a visual language, Mafalda privileges the creation of moving images as a means to explore the surreal in reality.
She began her artistic career at Chapitô, and later at Grupo de Teatro da Nova. In 2016, she completed her Masters in Performance Making at Goldsmiths (UK) and participated, one year later, in the first edition of PACAP (Advanced Program for Creation in Performing Arts), at Forum Dança. In 2013, she joins the Rabbit Hole collective and, in 2020, she founds the artistic residency space TRUST Collective, in Barril de Alva/ Arganil.
Her works and collaborations have already had the opportunity to be presented in Portugal, Italy, United Kingdom, Spain, Germany and Greece.
In her professional career, she assumed commitments and collaborations with several artistic structures either as a producer (highlighting the structure Bomba Suicida) or as the main and only responsible for communication and design of Rua das Gaivotas 6 and Teatro Praga.

ANTHI KOUGIA was born in Athens in 1989. She is a theatre & performance maker and since 2015 she works as creator, director and dramaturge. After graduating from the Department of Theatre Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, she completed an MA in Performance Making at Goldsmiths, University of London, as well as another course called PACAP- Advanced Programme of Creation in Performing Arts in Forum Danca, Lisbon. Her work has been presented in the UK, Germany, Greece, Croatia, Portugal and Italy. Recently, she completed her first collaboration with the Greek National Opera with the queer opera Orfeas2021 conceived by FYTA. She has been awarded the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Artist Fellowship by ARTWORKS (2020)
Regarding her artistic practice, the visual environment plays a significant role in her performance pieces. She works with speech, movement, sound, video and almost always in collaboration with other artists.
Keywords of her performance practice that keep appearing in her pieces are the following: waiting room, change of given perspectives, distortion, absurdity, the invisible, absence, irony, kitsch and entertainment.
