Lúmen appears in the year that Rui Horta leaves the role of artistic director of O Espaço do Tempo, after 22 years in Montemor. The choreographer decided to celebrate his close relationship with the community through a multidisciplinary creation, which will integrate several dozen people from the city, as well as other inhabitants in the region.

“I have always been fascinated by the sense of community that emerges from a group of people who sing and act together, like a lung, a search for union that is so difficult to find. I particularly like amateur performers, people who get together to sing, play and dance outside of working hours. Doing so, nowadays, is also an urgent manifesto: in a time of divisions and violence, simply being together is already an act of change. For weeks, we rehearsed, had fun, got emotional and got to know each other better. This work celebrates a land that adopted me and that one day I wanted to make my own. A land that, over the years, has seen the most extraordinary creators of theater and dance in our country parade and generously welcomed O Espaço do Tempo“. — Rui Horta
