Another Rose — Sofia Santos Silva
An echo of resistance and union.
We sing to invade the most sleeping ear.
In this show, Sofia Santos Silva proposes a collaboration with Gulabi Gang, an activist group based in Uttar Pradesh, northern India, seeking to turn the show into a platform at the service of the Gang’s mission. Gulabi Gang is a group founded by women in response to systemic violence and widespread discrimination in a society based on patriarchal practices and customs that trivialize violence against women. Sampat Pal, leader of the group, initiates this space of struggle, in order to make women aware of their constitutional rights and defense mechanisms in the fight against deep-rooted gender inequalities.
The show is a long-distance meeting with these women who sing their ideals of change and show the steps of a sisterhood that is unified through transformation. On the other hand, the importance of all types of brotherhoods, in any context and reality, that initiate spaces of resistance against acts that intend to harm the specificity of each body is highlighted.
The project Another Rose, by Sofia Santos Silva, won the 4th edition of the Amélia Rey Colaço Scholarship, an initiative jointly promoted by A Oficina (Guimarães), O Espaço do Tempo (Montemor-o-Novo), Teatro Nacional D Maria II (Lisbon) and Teatro Viriato (Viseu).
