Begonia Maculata

Begonia Maculata is a meeting piece of two artists: Ana Rita, a Portuguese artist who works with dance and with a repertoire of traditional Portuguese songs, and Li-Chin, Taiwanese artist, composer and interpreter of the traditional Chinese instrument Sheng 笙 , who has been working to make her instrument leave the classical repertoires and enter into contemporaneity.

With Begonia Maculata they intend to establish their own style within the historical relationship between music and dance, inspired by temporality and the stable and persevering essence of plants.

Ana Rita Teodoro and Li-Chin Li met in June 2018 at Camping CND (Centre National de la Danse, Pantin – France), where Ana Rita was invited to collaborate with three Taiwanese artists – Wen Chung, Yen-Ching and Li-Chin Li. Together they prepared a performance that was presented in August 2018 in Taipei, in the context of the ADAM Project. After this first meeting, the two artists continued to establish a relationship, meeting in Paris, Lisbon and Taipei on several occasions.
